Brief
Music discretely installed throughout a new build house, a simple way to control the lighting and security systems, screens in a number of different rooms including a large screen with surround sound in the main lounge to create a home cinema and a TV in the bathroom.
AUTOCAD Design
We were approached by the customer at the design stage of their new house – the best time to consider the home automation requirements – to discuss what they required. Their architect emailed the plans for the house which we transferred onto our AUTOCAD system so that we could work on the system design. Several meetings and phone conversations later, we arrived at a final design and scheduled the project.
The Kitchen and Dining Area
The kitchen is particularly large and with three children in the family, it was important that the space was multi functional. Speakers were installed discretely in the ceiling throughout the kitchen and dining area and then in the walls in the atrium to give an even spread of sound. A plasma screen was installed on the main wall in the dining area and a panel, similar to a light switch, for the lighting control system, situated next to the door.
The Snug
The ‘snug’ - a small living room - was also fitted with a plasma screen and speakers, for the multi room sound system, installed in the ceiling.
Home Cinema
The main lounge has been designed also to be used as a home cinema room. Though not yet complete, it has been planned and all the cabling and the surround sound speakers installed in the ceiling. It will have a projector fixed to the ceiling and an 8ft electric screen that will be lowered when in use. The curtains in the room will also be programmed to open and close at the touch of a button, providing an impressive real life cinema experience.
Upstairs
Speakers have been installed in the ceilings in the bedrooms and the games room has also been wired for sound. In the bathroom there is also a TV screen so that the owners can relax in the bath whilst enjoying their favourite TV programme or film.
Central System
All the rooms, as well as the speakers in the garden, are linked back to a central multi room audio system featuring a Sound Server which stores everyone’s CD collection on a hard disc unit and allows access to any track from every room in the house. This central system makes it possible to listen to different music in each room. An AMX control system featuring remote touch screen panels has been programmed by our specialists to make the system easy to use.
Lighting Control and Security
A lighting control system has been installed throughout the house and garden. This system has been designed to create different moods at a touch of a button. It can also be programmed to replay the family’s normal light usage whilst they are away as an added security feature.
The customer’s own electrician handled the first fix lighting and power wiring working from our wiring diagrams and then our electrician and installation team carried out the second fix and control wiring, installed all the equipment and handled the programming.
The telephone systems in the house have also been linked to the gate entry system and a CCTV camera installed in the children's playroom at the top of the house so that the parents can check that they are safe via any TV or control panel.
